Jazz, Church, and Joshua Wurld

Jazz, Church, and Joshua Wurld

First and foremost, thanks for your interest in this project. I 100% know that you didn't stumble upon this article by chance but by searching for this specific combination, so I appreciate you being here.

And if you're here, you either share my love for jazz, have an interest in my creations, or know me personally and want to check out my stuff.

Either way, it's all exciting, and I feel like I have to at least explain some of what all this is about—my inspirations, and how it all connects to what I'm looking to build.

The Primary Goals

My primary goals for this project lie in my love for music, specifically jazz styles, but also in creative production.

If you've seen the introductory prologue to Joshua Wurld, you'll get a sense that it's influenced by retro 80s/90s vibes, with a touch of nostalgic feel.

At its root, the project aims to combine the existing Lofi Wurld Project—a production aimed at generating and creating relaxing music and original content to immerse viewers and listeners in soul-soothing, retro-inspired R&B style tunes—with Joshua Wurld, my personal journey exploring the deep connections between jazz, church music, and the nostalgic vibes that fuel my creative vision.

What "Lofi" Really Means Here

The "Lofi" doesn't explicitly link to or invoke lofi music per se, but rather the appreciation for low-fidelity "vintage" or old-fashioned energy that still holds up today—and frankly, does so well—within the context of a modern delivery.

Combining this with my journey—my wurld—Joshua Wurld—as a jazz fan, a lover of the nostalgic vibes (hence Lofi Wurld TV), but also a fan of old school church music and travel to places that appreciate things in the old school way, I found the link and wanted to create this project.

I've used the term old-school a lot - and as the project evolves, you'll see and hopefully appreciate what that means.

But what is the link between the project, music, church, and Lofi Wurld?

Well, you'll have to watch the show to find out. In a nutshell: HISTORY + Personal Taste.

There has been a longstand (often unspoken) link between church music, jazz, and lofi music - namely as a continuum of African American musical tradition, evolving from sacred spirituals and gospel.

While modern church music emphasizes corporate worship and emotional release, in my opinion, jazz brings that spiritual intensity into personal expression, and lofi adapts it for general accessibility.

Now, exactly why Jazz evokes deeper emotion, and a sense of spiritual depth, while being versatile enough to be enjoyed as background music is certainly something worth exploring (and I will explore it later).

Why What Who

Yes, I seek to explore it all - with time. But for now, as a person putting JESUS first in my spiritual journey, and jazz first in my musical journey, I want to see what happens when these worlds of church, music, and a flair for creative expression collide.

This is the journey. This is the wurld I'm building. I will share my own musical influences, documenting and creating a unique experience along the way.

See you in the next one. Watch the journey at lofi.wurld.tv.
